A Few Fun Facts:

• Egg hatches after 3 to 5 days

• Caterpillar feeds for 14 to 18 days

• Pupates and forms a chrysalis

• Butterfly emerges after 10 days

• Adults migrate north and mate

• Typical females lay up to 500 eggs

In September, the "last" generation

born will fly south to the central

mountains of Mexico, a 3,000 mile

journey, and over-winter for nearly 5

months with millions of other

Monarchs.

In March, the cycle begins again with

the survivors flying north once more

to mate.  Some Monarchs in areas

around California and Florida do not

migrate to Mexico for the winter

months, but will remain year long.
